support@bridgeup.appFrequently asked questions
Where does the bridge status come from?
Bridge Up watches the St. Lawrence Seaway's official bridge status pages around the clock and pushes every change to the app and this website within moments. Vessel positions on the map come from the ships' AIS transponders.
How do the reopening predictions work?
Every closure at every bridge is logged, and those records are what produce the typical durations and the reopening ranges. A prediction is a range, not a promise: back-to-back ships or maintenance can hold a bridge down longer than usual.
How do notifications work?
Watch a bridge in the iOS app: if it's closed, you get a push when it reopens; if it's open, you're warned when a closure is coming, then get the all-clear once it's over. A watched bridge also shows up as a Live Activity on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island while the closure plays out. Free, like everything else in the app.
Is Bridge Up really free?
Yes. No subscriptions, no in-app purchases, no locked features. Bridge Up is a passion project born from getting stuck at these bridges, and the running costs are small enough to keep it free for everyone.
Which bridges does Bridge Up cover?
Every movable crossing Bridge Up monitors on the St. Lawrence Seaway: the Welland Canal bridges in St. Catharines, Thorold and Port Colborne, the Victoria and Sainte-Catherine bridges on Montréal's South Shore, the Larocque and Saint-Louis-de-Gonzague bridges on the Beauharnois Canal, and the Kahnawake rail bridges.
Does Bridge Up work with CarPlay?
Yes — Bridge Up ships with full CarPlay support, so bridge statuses are on the dash while you drive. iOS 26 or later is required.
Is there an Android or web version?
There's no Android app today. The live map on this website works in any browser, on any device, with the same real-time data as the app.
Does Bridge Up have widgets?
Yes — home-screen widgets in three sizes (the larger ones track several bridges, the largest on a map), Lock Screen widgets, and a Control Center button that opens your nearest bridge. Add them from the iOS widget gallery.
